Islay & Jura Junior Savers

When you reach your 16th birthday, you will automatically become an adult member of Islay & Jura Credit Union.

Islay & Jura Junior Savers is a new way for young people on Islay and Jura to save.  If you are under 16 and live on Islay or Jura, then Junior Savers is for you!

You can save as much or as little as you want each time - it's up to you.  You might want to save up to buy something, like a new bike, or to pay for something special, like riding lessons.  You might want to save up so that you have spending money for your holidays or Christmas.  You might just want to save for the future, so that you have money when you need it.

Even if you join the Junior Savers at school, you can still use an adult Collection Point during the holidays, so you can keep saving all year round.

If your school runs a Junior Savers scheme, then you can join there.  Port Charlotte Primary is the first school to have a Junior Savers club.  Congratulations to them!

We hope all the schools will take part before too long, but if you can't wait to start saving, then you can join up at one of the adult Collection Points.  You can find a copy of the Membership form here.  If you are under 12 years old, you will need an adult sponsor.  This is someone who will help you to run your savings account and manage your money.  Once you reach your 12th birthday, you can apply to run your account yourself, if your sponsor agrees.  To join, you will need one form of identification, like a passport or your birth certificate. Your sponsor will need two forms of identification - one with their address and one with their signature - unless they are already an adult member of the Credit Union.

Junior Savers earn interest on their money, paid once a year.  If you leave your money in your account and don't spend it, your savings grow all by themselves!

If you need to withdraw some of your money, you just complete a simple form and hand it in at your school or your usual Collection Point.  You can print a copy from here.  If you have a sponsor, they will need to sign the form.  Your money will be issued to you the following week in the form of a cheque, which can be cashed at your local Post Office.
